About

Our editorial process

Every article names at least two people: the person who wrote it and the clinician who reviewed it. You'll find both names on the page, and each one links to a page about them.

Bera Niemczewski writes and edits most articles, and Dr. Joyce Kahng, DDS medically reviews them. Contributing dentists, specialists, and therapists write under their own names on their own topics. We publish nothing with a clinical claim until a clinician reviews it.

We start with a real question

Each article answers a question patients ask in the chair, in Dr. Kahng's comments, or in search. The editorial team writes it for a general reader, sources every claim and lists the sources on the page.

We weigh evidence in this order

Dr. Kahng's own clinical position comes first, and we label it as hers. Next comes the primary research, which we read ourselves and cite for what it found. Then come the contributing experts. We bring in health organizations where a safety warning or a published dose calls for one.

A clinician reviews every article

Before we publish, Dr. Kahng or the contributing expert checks the article for clinical accuracy. When an article falls in a contributor's field, that contributor reviews it first.

We keep articles current

Research and recommendations change, and our articles change with them. Every article shows when we published it, when we last reviewed it, and an update history of what changed.

We're open about money

Some product links pay this site a commission, and we disclose those links where they appear. We write each verdict first, and a commission never changes one. Brands we feature pay nothing to appear.

Anyone can flag an error

Clinicians and readers can flag an error on any article. Dr. Kahng or the contributing expert reviews each one, and we log every accepted change, with its date, in the article's update history.
